Copa America 2024 Most Assists after Round 1

The first round of Copa America 2024 fixtures are over and there has been plenty of action and surprising results already. Holders Argentina began their title defense with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Canada. Despite not being at their best, they survived Canada’s challenge.

Arguably the other favorites of the tournament Brazil were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by Costa Rica. The likes of Uruguay, the USA, and Colombia all registered victories to start their campaign.

The Copa America 2024 has seen some great goal-mouth action and the attackers and attacking midfielders have been in terrific form so far. While we have seen a few goals scored, the creativity of some of the attackers has been a treat to watch.

They have created goals for their teams in Round 1 and will hope to continue it in further rounds as well. So, let’s take a look at the players with the most assists in Copa America 2024 after Round 1.

James Rodriguez

Colombia began their Copa America 2024 campaign with a 2-1 win over Paraguay. Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma scored for them and both assists came via James Rodriguez.

The former Real Madrid man has often been Colombia’s main man in major tournaments and has started this one brilliantly as well. He has scored 27 goals and provided 29 assists in 101 games for the side and will hope to add to his tally as the tournament progresses.

Alexis Mac Allister

Argentina secured a 2-0 win over Canada in their first game of the tournament courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez. Alexis Mac Allister provided the assist for the first goal. He made a clever run into the box, attracting the defenders and passed it to Alvarez to score in an empty net.

Mac Allister was also a key player for Argentina in their 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph and will look to repeat his exploits here as well.

Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic has had an excellent start to the tournament as the USA beat Bolivia 2-0 in their first game. He opened the scoring within three minutes before providing an assist for Folarin Balogun in the 44^th minute.

Pulisic has scored 30 goals and provided 18 assists in 69 games for the USA so far.

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi was the top scorer and the player with the most assists during Copa America 2021, which Argentina won. He will look to repeat his exploits in the 2024 edition as well.

The Inter Miami star has started the campaign with an assist. He provided a neat pass for Lautaro Martinez after an excellent team move in La Albiceleste’s win over Canada. Messi is Argentina’s all-time top scorer and assists provider with 108 goals and 58 assists.

This could be the 37-year-old’s final major tournament.

Freddy Gondola

Panama lost 3-1 against Uruguay in their first match at Copa America 2024. It was a dominant performance from Marcelo Bielsa’s side. However, Panama managed to put a dent in their evening as Michael Amir Murillo scored in the 94^th minute.

Freddy Gondola provided the assist. The Maccabi Bnei Reineh forward has made 20 appearances for Panama, scoring one goal and three assists.
