Crystal Palace vs Luton Town Preview, Prediction and Betting Tips

  • Date: 9 March, Saturday
  • Kick-off Time: 3:00 PM (GMT)
  • Stadium: Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace vs Luton Town Preview:

Crystal Palace vs Luton Town will kick off in a match where three crucial points are all up for grabs. Palace enter the contest on the back of three losses in their last five encounters. Their latest 3-1 loss to Tottenham last week certainly was the worst of all after Spurs came back from behind to defeat Palace. Despite replacing club legend Roy Hodgson with Olivier Glasner as gaffer, Palace have continued to suffer. However, a battle against 18th-placed Luton Town could elevate their spirits if they manage to secure three points.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Luton Town are struggling to get out of the drop zone. The residents of Kenilworth Road have enjoyed a decent season in their first season top flight, but have struggled since the turn of the year. The Hatters have lost all of their last four outings in the league, with their last win in January. As they attempt to escape the relegation zone and catch up with Nottingham Forest above them, three crucial points offer themselves to them against a weak Crystal Palace. However, the task won’t be simple to accomplish.

The Crystal Palace vs Luton Town battle also made headlines earlier in the week as referee Sunny Singh Gill will officiate proceedings at Selhurst Park, making him the first British South Asian to referee an English Premier League game.

The Eagles flew high in their tie against Tottenham last weekend as they took the lead around the hour mark. However, the scoreline read 3-1 in Spurs’ favor at the end of the game. Palace were handed another defeat in a period where the defense has been leaky due to the absence of key players.

Center-back Rob Holding arrived at Crystal Palace from Arsenal and has been plagued with an ankle injury since then. He will remain on the sidelines as Palace take on Luton. Crystal Palace will also host Luton in the absence of Michael Olise. The winger has been crucial for the Eagles this season having been involved in 9 G+A in the league. His hamstring injury in February ensured that he will remain on the sidelines till April end.

Talking about their recent leaky defense, Crystal Palace lost experienced center back Marc Guehi to a knee injury in February. The Englishman has been sidelined till May in what was a major blow to Palace. Forward Jordan Ayew also sustained a hip injury recently. The forward is recovering from his injury, but it is unlikely he will return for Luton.

Cheick Oumar Doucoure continues to remain sidelined with his long-term injury.

Luton unfortunately enter the business end of the season with an astoundingly long injury list. Striker Elijah Adebayo has been Luton’s leading man and his injury has been a massive blow. He continues to remain sidelined with his thigh injury. Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga endured a massive blow recently as he injured his hamstring on 1st March. He is unlikely to feature against Crystal Palace. His partner in the midfield Marvelous Nakamba continues to remain sidelined with his injury till May.

Center backs Gabriel Osho and Mads Andersen enlisted their names in the injury list with recent blows. This came as a big blow to Luton who were already without captain and center-back Tom Lockyer. Daniel Potts, Amari’i’ Bell, and Jacob Brown will also miss the tie against the Eagles. A grim situation for Luton to say the least with so many first-team players out.

Crystal Palace vs Luton Town Head-to-Head Record:

While the Eagles and the Hatters have faced each other quite a few times since 1920, this season was the first time the two sides met in the Premier League. Earlier this season when the two sides faced-off Luton Town grabbed a late goal in the dying embers of the game to win 2-1. The game played at Kenilworth Road was filled with drama and fans can expect the same on Saturday.

The last five results:

  • Luton Town 2-1 Crystal Palace:- English Premier League – 25 November, 2023
  • Crystal Palace 2-1 Luton Town:-Championship – 24 February, 2007
  • Luton Town 2-1 Crystal Palace:- Championship – 9 September, 2006
  • Luton Town 2-0 Crystal Palace:- Championship – 26 November, 2005
  • Crystal Palace 1-2 Luton Town:- Championship- 6 August, 2005

Crystal Palace vs Luton Town Prediction:

Crystal Palace and Luton Town will arrive at Selhurst Park in similar form. While Palace have struggled defensively recently, Luton’s long injury list handicaps them. Historically, the battle between the two sides has been closely fought, with one side barely emerging victorious. With both sides looking to secure important points, the game could end in a draw. For the moment, on paper, Palace have enough to secure all three points.

Predicted Score: Crystal Palace 2-1 Luton Town
