Borussia Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in their opening game of the 2024-25 Bundesliga season. Having crushed Phonix Lubeck 4-1 in their last game of the DFB-Pokal, Der BVB entered the tie with confidence, but struggled to break down a stoic Frankfurt side in the opening stanza.
Substitute Jamie Bynoe-Gittens came off the bench and broke the deadlock for them in the 72nd minute before making it 2-0 in stoppage-time. Here are the player ratings for both sides:

Donyell Malen – 5/10: Struggled to win his duels and complete his dribbles; unusually quiet in attack

Marcel Sabitzer – 6/10: Missed one big chance in the game and was underwhelming throughout
Julian Brandt – 6.5/10: Fed his attacking cohorts with plenty of crosses and attempted a few shots at goal too

Robin Koch – 6/10: Was found out of position a few times and struggled to cope with Dortmund’s intensity

Ellyes Skhiri – 6.5/10: Completed most of his passes but couldn’t offer a solid resistance to Dortmund’s movements
