The 31-year-old goalkeeper missed Aston Villa’s first-leg tie against Olympiacos in the UEFA Conference League and was expected to return in time for the second-leg clash away from home.

Martinez suffered a tear in his thigh and was expected to make his comeback against Liverpool on May 13th. Aston Villa currently holds the Champions League spot and have an easy domestic schedule for the remainder of the campaign.

Before Villa’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton last weekend, Unai Emery revealed that the Argentine will face a late fitness test to decide on his availability on Thursday.

‘Tomorrow is the training session we can have more information on players who played yesterday and others who had small injuries,’ Emery said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

‘If he [Martinez] feels comfortable and without risk, he could be available.’

The Villa No.1 was anyway expected to miss the first leg due to suspension after he was booked twice in the penalty shootout against Lille in the quarter-finals.
