Former Tottenham Hotspur Player Eric Dier Inflicts Thoughts on Non-inclusion in England Squad in Recent Times

Eric Dier reflects on how things haven’t worked well for him despite being a consistent performer lately

Eric Dier joined the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in a previous winter transfer window in January. His contract with the German side darts till June 2025. The defender has been gearing up for Bayern’s Champions League quarterfinal clash against his former club Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in England.

During his visit to the country, he caught up with former Manchester United player and current Sky Sports football Pundit Garry Nevil during Garry’s show ‘The Overlap’. The England-born centre-back Eric Dier asserted his thoughts on his future at the International stage for his country and how it feels regarding not being in the mix for the national team selection despite being a consistent performer at the club level lately.

Reflecting on his non-inclusion in the Euro 2024 squad Eric stated –

“Obviously, I Want to be part of the England set-up and I believe that I should be a part of it, that I’m that level of player”. He inflicted that he hasn’t talked to England’s manager Gareth Southgate recently but insisted that as a player “You try and play as well as possible for your club and then the decision is out of your hands”.

He then dwelled upon how he felt after not being selected for England’s previous Euro squad for the year 2021 –

“It’s s*** sitting at home, not being there is not fun”, Eric reportedly expressed on the Overlap while talking to Garry Nevile.

From Eric Dier’s statements, it can be inferred that he does possess the hunger to represent his country on the international level consistently. The current Bayern Munich player had been a prominent and reliable performer for Spurs during his days in the Premier League. But, maybe wasn’t hailed adequately for the job he had done at the Londoners.

Eric Dier made his debut for England on the international stage in November 2015. He has since then played a respectable sum of 49 games for his country at the highest level. In addition to his defensive contribution. the 30-year-old has also chipped in with a mere tally of three goals for England. He has earlier represented England’s under-18, under-19, under-20, and under-21 set-up at the youth level before getting his senior call-up.

As far as his club career goes for his most recent two clubs, the defender played in a mammoth tally of 365 games for Tottenham Hotspur before moving on to the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. For Spurs in addition to being a primary figure in defence, he also registered a sum of 25 goal contributions to his name.

For Bayern Munich Dier has so far had 11 outings. He has looked in good form and shape at the German club under Thomas Tuchel and after being reunited with his former Spurs teammate Harry Kane. Since joining, the centre-back has started about 60 percent of Bayern’s matches in the Bundesliga.
