Everton vs Luton Town: Preview, Team News, Lineups, H2H, Prediction, Odds and Telecast

Everton vs Luton Town Preview

Everton will host Premier League rivals Luton Town at Goodison Park in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup on Saturday, January 27. Embroiled in a tight relegation battle in the league, the two teams will lock horns in the cup.

The Toffees have had a tumultuous season so far. They were slapped with a 10-point deduction for breaching the PL’s profitability and sustainability rules earlier this season. However, manager Sean Dyche and his men climbed out of the relegation zone in style but hover just above it. Recently, the team has been on a decline, winning just once in their last five games. That was their Third Round replay against Crystal Palace as Everton edged it 1-0 to progress.

Luton, on the other hand, have managed the big step up to the PL fairly well. They are just one point behind Everton in the league and will look to do their best to stay up this season. Luton are in a slightly better vein of form, having won two of their last five games. They too played a replay in the previous round, overcoming Bolton Wanderers 2-1 away from home. Manager Rob Edwards will look to get a good result for his team.

That said, let’s take a look at the team news.

Team News & Probable Lineups

Everton

Ashley Young, Everton

English pair Ashley Young and Dele Alli remain sidelined with long-term muscle injuries and their return dates are unknown. Idrissa Gueye remains unavailable for selection owing to his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

None of the Toffees’ players face the risk of suspension ahead of this game. Considering they play Fulham in the league just four days after this game, Dyche will rotate his XI like the last game.

Probable XI: Joao Virginia (GK), Nathan Patterson (C), James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Amadou Onana, James Garner, Jack Harrison, Andre Gomes, Dwight McNeil, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Luton Town

Luton Town will be without captain Tom Lockyer, who tragically collapsed on the pitch in December due to heart issues. He is in a stable condition and recovering, but it remains unclear whether he will return to the game. Issa Kabore is unavailable due to being called up by Burkina Faso for AFCON.

None of Luton’s players are at the risk of a suspension either and Edwards is likely to go with a full-strength XI considering they face PL opposition.

Probable XI: Thomas Kaminski (GK), Teden Mengi, Gabriel Osho, Amari’i Bell (C), Chiedozie Ogbene, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ross Barkley, Alfie Doughty, Andros Townsend, Jordan Clark, Elijah Adebayo.

Top Players to Watch

Everton

The Toffees have seen their midfielders carry the goalscoring burden on their shoulders. Abdoulaye Doucoure (7) and Dwight McNeil (6) are the current leaders in goal contributions. However, with Doucoure representing Mali at AFCON, McNeil will be in the spotlight as the team’s chief creator.

The 24-year-old has made a relatively slow start to the campaign, scoring just twice and providing five assists in 23 games. He will look to add to that tally in what will be a crucial game for Everton.

Luton Town

Carlton Morris, Luton Town

Forward Carlton Morris has been crucial for Luton this season, bagging six goal contributions in the Premier League so far. He will have to be at his best and probably score another goal or two if Luton are to eliminate Everton from the FA Cup.
