The situation is described as tense, and while there is interest in the striker staying in the Saudi Pro League (SPL), there’s a possibility of him joining another Saudi club. However, a return to Europe is not ruled out, albeit with a significant salary cut.
Romano took to Twitter to share the latest developments, stating:
“Understand more meetings will take place soon to discuss the future of Karim Benzema. The situation remains tense with Al Ittihad. SPL bosses still want KB to stay in Saudi, even to join another Saudi club. Return to Europe can only be possible with a huge salary cut.”
Benzema’s delayed return to Al Ittihad after the SPL’s mid-season break, reportedly 17 days late, and subsequent unavailability for 10 days have added to the complexities of his situation.
The striker has been linked with a move to Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United, but time constraints in the January window may pose challenges for the English clubs.
