Feyenoord will take on Bayer Leverkusen at the De Kuip Stadium on Thursday in their first match of the new league stage of the competition.

Almost every attacking move for Bayer Leverkusen goes through Florian Wirtz. The German attacking midfielder has been a revelation under Xabi Alonso and was a key player in their incredible 2023-24 season.

The Ballon d’Or 2024 nominee has also started this season brilliantly, scoring three goals and providing one assist in five games across competitions. He will likely again be the key if Leverkusen are to unlock Feyenoord’s defence.

Feyenoord had a thrilling but triumphant start to the season as they beat PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup final. The match was an enthralling 4-4 in regulation time before Feyenoord won 4-2 on penalties.

However, they have won just one of their four league games so far – a 5-1 win over PEC Zwolle. They have played out draws in their other three games and have been let down by fine margins.
