FPL Tips for Gameweek 1

Five Tips for Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 1 | FPL

FPL managers, it’s time to tighten your seatbelts as the 126th edition of England’s premier football tournament is set to begin. EPL 2024-25 will begin on 16th August, with giants Manchester United locking horns with Fulham at the iconic Old Trafford.

Be cautious with all your moves, and make the best analysis and strategies as every single decision will affect your ranking among the millions of competitors. In Gameweek 1, we will witness three highly anticipated clashes, when West Ham clashes with Aston Villa, Leicester City fights Tottenham Hotspur with the highly awaited fixture of Chelsea v/s Manchester City gaining major attention.

With that being said, let’s have a look at some of the crucial tips you should implement to hope for maximum points.

Tips for FPL Gameweek 1:

1. Choose Salah over Haaland

Many will make the mistake of choosing Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, as he was the highest goal scorer last season with 27 goals. You should opt for seasoned player Mohammed Salah instead.

Wondering why? Haaland is the costliest player in FPL this time, prized at 15.0. Salah, who was also one of the leading goalscorers, is prized 12.5. Picking the Man City forward might disturb your budget. Also, Man City will face a tough opponent like Chelsea, while Liverpool will take on Ipswich Town. So, Salah has a chance of earning more points.

2. Choose Alisson Becker as your first-choice GK

Picking Alisson over any other goalkeeper will be a wise and safe move. He will be shielded by the best defenders above him in this fixture like Trent Alexander-Arnold & Van Dijk. A defense as lethal as this is almost impossible to penetrate for Ipswich Town forwards. Thus, choosing the Reds goalie shall assure you guaranteed clean sheet points.

3. Trying picking more Arsenal defenders

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were runners-up last season, losing the title by a whisker to eventual winners Man City. The impressive performance should majorly be credited to the Gunners’ back-line. They were the only side to face less than 30 goals last season.

In Gameweek 1, the Gunners will be facing the Wolves. Arteta would like to keep his defense consolidated as always. Picking Saliba and Zinchenko might prove to be intelligent, as they together would cost only 11, but would assure you points of a clean sheet and might even provide assists if you are lucky.

4. Pick a low-prize GK for the bench

Having a low-price GK might be your smartest move. While you are already picking a quality GK as your first choice, having someone like Neto on the bench for just 4.5 will save you some money. He has averaged 3.4 points every game and will be facing Nottingham Forest next. So, having a low-price goalie like Neto will not only let you have more money but also have your goalkeeping position insured for any mishaps.

5. Avoid having players from Chelsea, Man City, Leicester City & Tottenham

Remember that this is the first game week. You should be playing safe now with a long-term strategy in mind, to take the risks in the later stages, depending on your future points. So, for gameweek 1, it is advisable to not have players from Chelsea, Man City, Leicester City & Tottenham Hotspur. As these teams would be involved in high-voltage clashes and outcomes can affect your overall points.
