Arguably, the most competitive and tough football league in the world, EPL is set to kick off in less than a week. And, with its kick-off knocking on doors, football enthusiasts from around the world are busy creating their FPL teams to challenge thousands of opponents and rise above the ranks.
FPL managers are busy using their tactical acumen, to analyze the fixtures ahead and make the best strategies possible. However, thinking too much and thinking wrong can affect their points and thus their rankings.
So, let’s have a look at the mistakes FPL managers should avoid to get the best for their team in this game week and the tournament in the long run.
1. Focusing too much on costly forwards, midfielders
Remember, the budget is limited to only 100, and famous forwards and midfielders will cost you the most. Trying picking only one forward above the cost of 8 and a maximum of two midfielders above eight. The rest of the players need to be below this mark for GW1.
This is just the first week, and EPL has displayed the fall of many stars and the rise of some unknown names. Wait for a few good weeks to observe players of less price and good form. Focus on defenders as they would assure you safe points for now.
2. Not looking at future fixtures
FPL managers shouldn’t be making teams with only week 1 in mind. Ones with long-term strategies prevail till the business ends. Don’t just pick multiple players from teams with easier opponents in GW1, you might have to make multiple transfers in the next few game weeks then. Pick your squad strategically.
For example, if you pick three players from Liverpool in GW 1, seeing their opponents as Ipswich Town, you might need to change all three in GW 3, when they face rivals Manchester United.
3. Making risky, bold moves at the start
With the season set to begin, it’s not very clear who would be a dark horse. So, managers should stick to consistent players in the beginning and play safe. They should observe for at least 3-4 weeks and only then try risky moves.
Managers should also pick consistent performers, who will be facing lighter opponents as their captains. Picking lesser-known faces as captain might be a gamble at a loss.
4. Not having a balanced squad
The key to the success of a fantasy team is having a balanced squad. Managers should be picking players of various positions and prizes, to keep themselves safe. Having players of different prizes will make their transfer moves easier. If one invests heavily in a specific position of players, transferring them in the future will cost them more moves.
5. Focusing only on goalscorers and not assist providers
Yes, a goal scored will earn your pick too many bonus points, but they come at a huge price and you have a limited budget. So, you should target assist providers, who will also earn you points but come at affordable rates. Remember, players like Watkins and Trippier had 13 and 10 assists last season respectively. Their pickers gained significantly last time.
