Few players have done as well at Chelsea as Thiago Silva has ever since the Brazilian arrived at the club as a free-transfer in the summer of 2020. In the four years since, Silva has become the pillar of the Blues’ defense despite being 35 years old when he first arrived. Yet despite that, the Brazilian played a key role as the club won the Champions League in his debut season.
Not only that, in the years since, Silva has been arguably one of the team’s most consistent stars, thriving under a host of different managers. But with injuries and young blood replacing Silva this season, it has seen reports indicate that the now 39-year-old is considering his options. That was confirmed earlier this week, when the defender revealed that he will leave at the end of the season.
Thiago Silva Transfer: Fluminense in the race alongside several European clubs to sign Silva
The 39-year-old signed a one-year contract last summer and while he was reportedly offered a new contract, Silva has opted to leave on a free-transfer once his contract expires. That has already opened the floodgates with more than half a dozen European sides keen on signing him. That, reportedly, includes three London sides as per TNT Sports Brazil.
However, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Brazilian giants Fluminense have entered the race with the club considered to be the front-runners in the race. Reports have indicated that Silva is keen on playing in Brazil before he retires with Fluminense reportedly his top choice. The 39-year-old already has a proposal on the table from the club but Romano has revealed that a deal is not done yet.
The Italian journalist has revealed that a contract offer is on the table for Silva and while the two parties are still hashing things out, the 39-year-old is not rushing his decision. The interest from several European clubs has attracted the defender’s attention although no proposal has been submitted from any potential suitor aside from Fluminense.
