France Squad for Euro 2024

France Squad for Euro 2024: Who’s in and who’s out from the updated list of players?

Coach Didier Deschamps and the selection committee have announced France Squad for Euro 2024, with just a few weeks left to go for the tournament. Having last won the competition way back in 2000, Les Bleus finished runners-up in the 2016 edition.

With a strong squad at their disposal, France will hope to go all the way this time around as they are one of the favourites to lift the cup. Without further ado, let’s take a look at France squad for Euro 2024 with all the ins and outs.

France squad for Euro 2024: Players Who Are In

Deschamps has once again named a squad filled with talent, youth, and experience, as well as the ability to win. Most veteran stars have retained their place barring injuries, while a couple of youngsters have also received a call-up.

Goalkeepers

Despite suffering an injury scare for AC Milan against Juventus in late April, first-choice custodian Mike Maignan is expected to retain his place in the starting XI. He will be deputised by West Ham United’s Alphonse Areola, with Brice Samba as the third-choice.

Defenders

France boasts one of the most stacked defensive rosters in the tournament as they have quality options for all positions. Jules Kounde, William Saliba, Ibrahima Konate, Theo Hernandez and Ferland Mendy are expected to make up the main rotation in the team. Les Bleus also have Jonathan Clauss, Dayot Upamecano and Benjamin Pavard in their ranks.

Midfielders

The midfield is where France can experiment combinations of youth and experience, efficiency and flair, and more as they have highly-skilled personnel. Antoine Griezmann, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are expected to form the main trio. They also have heaps of quality in the form of N’Golo Kante, Adrien Rabiot, Youssouf Fofana and Warren Zaire-Emery on the bench.

Forwards

Picking just three from this list is going to give headaches to Deschamps. Superstar Kylian Mbappe is a guaranteed starter on the left, with record goalscorer Olivier Giroud expected to start up top. Ousmane Dembele or Kingsley Coman will start on the right flank. France also have Bradley Barcola, Randal Kolo Muani, and Marcus Thuram as options.

France squad for Euro 2024: Players Who Are Out

The most notable absentee, who would be a guaranteed starter if present, is Lucas Hernandez. The PSG defender injured his ACL earlier this year and is earmarked to return to action towards the end of the calendar year. Backup midfielder Boubacar Kamara suffered the same injury as well.

Forward Christopher Nkunku’s battles with injuries continue as the Chelsea man was unable to get fit in time to even be considered for the squad. Aston Villa’s Moussa Diaby and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise were unfortunate to miss out after great campaigns. Meanwhile, Matteo Guendouzi has been dropped after being a part of the March friendlies.

Paul Pogba misses out due to his suspension for doping.
