Germany vs Ukraine Match Preview
- Tournament – International Friendlies
- Date – Tuesday, June 4
- Kick-off Time – 05:45 AM GMT
- Venue – Max-Morlock-Stadion, Germany
Germany vs Ukraine will be played as an International Friendly at the Max Morlock Stadium on June 3 as both sides look to get some practice matches under their belt.
The hosts will enter this contest on the back of a mixed run of form. They have lost three of their last eight games across competitions, securing four wins and one draw in the other five. In this run, Die Mannschaft have scored 14 goals and have conceded a worrying 14 as well. They have only kept one clean sheet in a 2-0 win against France in March but will look to put in a solid performance in these upcoming friendlies against Ukraine and Greece after them.
Ukraine, on the other hand, will enter this game on the back of a much better run of form than the Germans. They have lost just once in their last eight games across competitions, winning five and drawing two of the remaining seven games. In this span, Ukraine have scored 13 goals and conceded just six, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Undefeated in their last six, they will look to make a statement by getting a result against the hosts of Euro 2024.
On that note, let’s take a look at the team news coming out of both camps.

Team News
Germany
Manager Julian Nagelsmann named his preliminary squad for Euro 2024 earlier this month, with some key players omitted. Defenders Niklas Sule and Mats Hummels missed out, while midfielders Julian Brandt and Leon Goretzka were overlooked. Up front, the manager decided to leave Karim Adeyemi, Timo Werner and Serge Gnabry out of the squad.
Some new faces in the form of Alexander Nubel, Maximilian Mittelstadt, Alexander Pavlovic and Niclas Fullkrug have been included in the squad.
Ukraine
Manager Serhiy Rebrov has already named a full 26-man squad for the tournament well in advance. They have Andriy Lunin in goal, with the likes of Vitalik Mykolenko and Illya Zabarnyi ahead of him in defence.
Despite being a left-back by nature, Oleksandr Zinchenko has been named as a midfielder, with Taras Stepanenko also included. Out wide they have Mykhaylo Mudryk and Viktor Tsygankov, with Artem Dovbyk and Roman Yeremchuk leading the line.
Predicted Lineups
Germany
Nagelsmann will likely go with a relatively strong side to see where the team stands with just a few weeks left for the Euros.
Predicted XI: Manuel Neuer (GK) (C); Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger, Nico Schlotterbeck, David Raum; Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan; Leroy Sane, Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala; Kai Havertz.
Ukraine
Rebrov, too, will likely go with a strong XI.
Predicted XI: Andriy Lunin (GK); Yukhym Konoplia, Illia Zabarnyi, Mykola Matviyenko (C), Vitaliy Mykolenko; Georgiy Sudakov, Volodymyr Brazhko, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Viktor Tsygankov, Roman Yeremchuk, Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Germany vs Ukraine Head-to-Head Record
These two sides have faced off fairly often in the last decade or so, producing high-scoring games of high entertainment value. Germany leads the recent head-to-head, having won three of their last five meetings, with the other two games ending in draws.
Last 5 Games
- Germany 3-3 Ukraine
- Germany 3-1 Ukraine
- Ukraine 1-2 Germany
- Germany 2-0 Ukraine
- Ukraine 3-3 Germany
Prediction
Based on the last five meetings between these two nations, it is safe to say that viewers can expect goals on both ends in the upcoming match. As mentioned above, Ukraine have the better defensive record in their last few games, while Germany have a lot of work to do before their defence comes anywhere close to being watertight.
However, considering Die Mannschaft are playing at home, they will use that to their advantage to sneak a win. It will not come easy against a determined Ukrainian team, though.
Prediction: Germany 3-2 Ukraine.
Betting Tips & Odds
Germany have had an uncharacteristically poor defensive record over the last couple of months, averaging two goals scored and two goals conceded per game. They are likely to be leaky in this game as well, but will get forward and mitigate that with their versatile and dangerous attack.
