“Good question” – Erling Haaland’s take on Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or win has finally arrived

Erling Haaland on Messi – “He is the best”

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has praised Lionel Messi in an interview. Before his game against Copenhagen FC in the Champions League’s Round of 16, Haaland was left baffled when asked if  the Argentinian superstar was his only obstacle to win something like Ballon d’Or or FIFA’s The Best Award.

“I don’t know, good question. It’s true he won it and he won the World Cup. So, I don’t know what to say. He is the best that ever played I think so I don’t know.” – Erling Haaland on Messi

Haaland is still 23 with a long treacherous road ahead of him including criticism from people. The son of former City player, Alf-Inge, also added that his only focus was to improve his game on the pitch, reminding that he is the Premier League’s current season top scorer.

Silencing the doubters

“Last year I scored 36 goals and was the top scorer,” Haaland said on his career goals in response to changes from the previous season to this one via beIN Sports. “This season I am still the top scorer, with 18, so you can think it’s been a good season or not for me.

“I think we are doing quite well as a team, and that’s my goal. I have missed, I have missed many chances, and I will surely miss in the future, and people will criticise me. Do I have to think about it? No.”

Erling Haaland pushes himself to the limits

The former RB Leipzig forward has been progressing for the past few years. Coming to his second season with The Citizens, he is now only six goals away to level his club goals record in three seasons with Borussia Dortmund (86). The Norwegian has almost swept all the titles possible with City in his first season, leaving only the Carabao Cup on his career goals in the future.

“I could start crying a lot if I missed many chances, so I’ve worked on it. It’s been a challenge, and I demand a lot from myself, and people also demand a lot from me. It’s something I work on.”

Haaland’s chance to have another title-winning season with City is still wide open. Despite failing to win the Carabao for the second season in a row, the Champions League and Premier League are still on the list.

Apart from having Copenhagen stand in the way of title defending season in the Champions League, the Leeds-born forward will have another battle to defend his Premier League title. Sitting second on the table, Haaland’s City is trailing one point to Liverpool and have Arsenal one point behind in a tight competition at the top.
