Inter Miami coach Tata Martino has answered whether Lionel Messi will play for Inter Miami’s next games. Messi will captain Argentina in the Copa America 2024. He will join Lionel Scaloni’s camp on Sunday.
The former Barcelona player was rested for Inter Miami’s clash against Vancouver Whitecaps. Martino, however, has claimed that he will play the next two games against Atlanta United and St. Louis City. Speaking of his plans, Martino said (via GOAL):
“We are clear that he (Messi) is playing in Saturday’s game and (then) has to report to the national team.”
Messi has been in stunning form this season. He has scored 12 goals and has provided 11 assists in 13 appearances. However, Messi will miss the Herons’ games during the Copa America. The same situation could happen with Luis Suarez. Marcelo Bielsa is yet to announce Uruguaya’s squad for the Copa America. If Suarez is selected, he will also miss club games. That could add to Martino’s worries.
Inter Miami currently sit atop the Eastern Conference of the MLS. They have 34 points from 16 matches. After missing out on the play-offs last season, Inter Miami are doing well to make the play-offs this season.
