Is Mohamed Salah Set for a Saudi Pro League Move? Former Striker Predicts Big Changes Ahead

Mohamed Salah’s form for Liverpool has always been flawless but this season sees a sudden change in plans as a fresh bid from the Saudi Pro League is anticipated next summer.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor suggests Mohamed Salah would leave for the Saudi Pro League. The Egyptian has been Liverpool’s top Premier League scorer, attracting a wide range of interest, recently Al-Ittihad in 2023, which did not go as planned.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s final year pushed things further and now he thrives under new manager Arne Slot. The new Dutch coach has helped Salah continue his goalscoring. Moreover, Salah’s contract expires this summer, and with no extension panned, foreign clubs can begin talks for a free transfer in January.

The former Aston Villa man told talkSPORT “I’ve got a source that told me Salah’s definitely going. Saudi, on a record contract.”

“I’m hearing that he will earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo, he’ll be the face of the football over there. You can’t turn that down if you’re Mo Salah. He’s done everything at Liverpool hasn’t he?”

“I think he would have signed a new contract by now if he was staying, and it’s an offer he can’t turn down,” Agbonlahor added. He was then asked about Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom are also out of contract in June, but admitted he didn’t have information on the pair.

Uncertain Liverpool players

While the futures of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold are not clear, Liverpool manager Slot will have to face continuous questions about the three.

“Again, I’ll give the boring answer, which you’re going to get from me as long as there’s no news about this, but we don’t talk about contract situations over here,” he told reporters. “Is it distracting? Is that the word you used for me? No, it isn’t because I’m fully focused on the individuals in the team and they’re part of the team.

“I’m just focused on trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them. So it’s not a distraction for me at all.”

The squad is undergoing heavy rotation with Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk benched in the 3rd round win against West Ham on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. Salah had a last 30-minute cameo and is expected to start against Wolves on Saturday.
