Veteran Midfielder Leads Colombia to Final

James Rodriguez has been named the best player of Copa America 2024. Despite Colombia’s 1-0 defeat to Argentina in the final held in Miami the 33-year-old midfielder stood out throughout the tournament guiding his team to the last match with his exceptional play.

Rodriguez (a former Real Madrid, Monaco, and Everton star) proved he still has what it takes on the big stage.

He topped the assist chart with six assists and also added a goal to his tally. His efforts earned him the prestigious Golden Ball award making him the second Colombian ever to receive this honor following in the footsteps of Carlos Valderrama who won it in 1987.

Argentina Secures Historic 16th Title

Argentina claimed their 16th Copa America title a record-breaking achievement with a narrow victory over Colombia.

The only goal of the final came from Lautaro Martinez who also won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals.

Argentina’s success was also bolstered by their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who won the Golden Glove for his outstanding performance.

Martinez kept five clean sheets in six matches proving to be a vital last line of defense for the champions. His heroics in the penalty shootout against Ecuador were particularly memorable cementing his status as one of the tournament’s best players.

Although Colombia fell short in the final their journey to the last match was marked by impressive performances and moments of brilliance largely orchestrated by James Rodriguez.

Colombia seeking their second Copa America title since their 2001 victory demonstrated their potential and resilience.

Rodriguez reflected on the tournament with pride acknowledging the efforts of his teammates and the support of their fans.

“It’s been an incredible journey,” he said. “To be named the best player is an honor, but it’s a testament to the hard work and spirit of this team.”
