Joan Laporta gives an update on Dani Olmo and Nico Williams transfer speculation

The Catalan giants have heavily linked with a move for both Dani Olmo and Nico Williams with the latter’s release clause set in the region of €58 million. Barcelona has prioritised in bringing back Dani Olmo who is a product of La Masia academy.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta earlier claimed that the club can afford Nico Williams who had a sensational campaign with Spain in the Euros. The club is reported to be in excess of their annual spending limit and will only be able to afford players like Williams if they fix their finances soon.

Williams has struck a close relationship with Yamal during the Euros while Pedri also expressed his desire to see the Athletic Bilbao teenager at Barcelona this summer.

How did Joan Laporta address Barcelona’s financial situation?

The Barcelona president was present during Hansi Flick’s first press conference as a Barcelona manager on Thursday. Laporta explained the club’s financial woes but reassured that a number of deals/transfers could be expected this summer.

“The sports news, well, Deco is working on it. But they know that we can cope with certain investments,” he told reporters.

“Now Barça can make signings of the magnitude we are talking about. The fans have been patient and we are in a position to carry out any operation in the market, we will keep you informed shortly.

“We have a series of investors that we will announce. We are in negotiations with Nike that will improve the conditions for Barça. We are satisfied. There will be news in the medium term.

“The economic issue is much better than it was. The process was to save the club, to recover the club and we are on the way to normality.”
