Jose Mourinho - Jose Mourinho on Jadon Sancho

Jose Mourinho blames Erik ten Hag for Jadon Sancho’s Man United failure

Jose Mourinho reflected on what went wrong for Jadon Sancho at Man United

The veteran Portuguese and former Man United manager Jose Mourinho enlisted his thoughts regarding Jadon Sancho’s situation at the Premier League club. During a pre-match show presented by ‘TNT Sports’ at the Wembley Stadium in London before the UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, Jose was asked about what could possibly have gone wrong for Sancho during his spell at United under Erik ten Hag.

Jose Mourinho answered the question by including all the factors that according to him could have played a part in what turned out to be a luke-warm spell for the winger at the Red Devils. He indulged in the potential and talent of Jadon Sancho and then quickly jumped upon his experience in the past in situations alike to the winger’s one.

Mourinho reportedly stated – “As a player, we know his talent. We saw what he can do, there are no doubts about it. What happened at Man United..if I look at my own history, sometimes I failed with players”. He further pointed out – “Sometimes I couldn’t create the right empathy, I couldn’t understand the player’s DNA and I couldn’t help players grow up in the right direction”.

Encrypting his experience on how certain players differ from others Jose Mourinho reflected – “Sometimes they have the talent but don’t have the mindset you want from a player”. “For Sure, the Kid (Jadon Sancho) made mistakes, that’s for sure, but for sure his manager (Erik ten Hag) was not able to get the best out of him”, the Portuguese then progressively asserted.

From the statements of the 61-year-old, it can be inferred that he is able to grasp that despite having the metal to succeed at the Red Devils, Sancho wasn’t able to do so. But in that process, he was not the sole defaulter as Erik ten Hag wasn’t able to understand the player and get the best performances out of him cohesively.

What does the future hold in store for Jadon Sancho?

As per ‘John Cross’ from ‘The Mirror’, Jadon Sancho is willing to return to Man United after the end of his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. But, his return will heavily be dependent on the fact that whether the Dutch manager Erik ten Hag will stay at the Red Devils or not. Recent reports in the English media pointed out that the future of ten Hag at United remains under scrutiny. The English club is reportedly named among the clubs in the mix for the search for a new manager.

However, the recent FA Cup triumph for the Red Devils might end up providing the 54-year-old some time to pitch his claim at the Premier League side. Considering how well Sancho did during his loan spell at Dortmund, he could turn out to be a very useful asset for Man United leading into the next season. But, things remain unclear at this point in time whether the 24-year-old will be taking the field for the club in the 2024-2025 season or not.
