After the tests carried out on our player Joselu by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with bone edema in his right ankle. Evolution is pending,” a report on Madrid’s official website states.

On loan from Espanyol, the 33-year-old has enjoyed a mixed campaign so far with Real and has scored eight La Liga goals. However, on Friday (Feb 23), the Spanish international suffered an ankle injury which will see him miss the next three weeks of action. This would result in the striker missing the return leg of the Champions League R16 tie against RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Wednesday (March 6) where the hosts have a 1-0 aggregate lead.

In La Liga, Joselu will miss the home matches against Sevilla and Celta Vigo while skipping away games against Valencia and Osasuna respectively. In total Joselu could miss five matches and could next feature for the side after the international break in March. If this is the case, Joselu will feature next for Real at home against Athletic Bilbao on March 31 after the international break.

Joselu to miss Spain duties?

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, having recently signed a new contract with the national side till the 2026 FIFA World Cup will also have to monitor Joselu’s situation. The Real Madrid forward has enjoyed his international career ever since De la Fuente was handed the job in 2022. The coach handed Joselu his international debut at 32 and has since scored five goals in nine matches. However, with a very remote chance of recovering Josleu’s inclusion in the Spanish side for friendlies in March will be subject to a fitness test.

Real’s run injury issue amid title challenge

For Real Madrid, the injury list goes on prolonging as Josleu becomes the 32nd injured player this campaign. The list already contains Camavinga (suspended), Carvajal (suspended) and Bellingham (injured). A win for Real Madrid over the weekend against Sevilla will see them open a nine-point gap at the top of the La Liga standings with second-placed Girona not in action until Monday evening.
