Julian Alvarez is calm about his future with Manchester City

Rumours and speculations have been spread during the season break regarding Julian Alvarez’s future with Manchester City. It is known that the young Argentinian forward has not given that much playing time with The Citizens despite always being included with the first team squad across the competition.

Alvarez is currently playing for Argentina at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. On several occasions, the former River Plate striker admitted that concern about his future with City is not crossing his mind as Alvarez is fully focused on the international agenda in France.

“There is a lot of talk,” Alvarez told reporters earlier this week when asked about his City future via Football London. “I am focused here [at the Olympics] because it is a short tournament. We will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.”

Pep Guardiola has rarely relied on Alvarez during big games. It was something that caught the attention of the player as he wished to be involved more with the team’s important matches in the future.

“At Manchester City, I feel very good, I played a lot of minutes,” he added. “Maybe it’s annoying to be out in big games; players always want to help on the pitch. But my season was good, so I’m very happy.”

Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Alvarez in the future. However, there has not been any real progress regarding the rumour and Alvarez himself admitted that he doesn’t really buy it.

“These are things that are said [transfer rumours],” Alvarez acknowledged to ESPN, “but I am calm; I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens.”

On the other hand, Guardiola said that selling Alvarez is not on his bucket list. However, the Spaniard added that if the player wanted things to go the other way around, there is nothing he can do about it.

“I don’t think about replacing [Alvarez]. I knew he said he will think about it,” Guardiola said. “Once he has finished thinking, his agent will call Txiki [Begiristain], and we will see what happens.

“I know he wants to play in important moments, but the other players [want that] too. We have 18 or 19 players who want to play in the important games. I read he has to think about it, so OK, think about it, and after that, he will inform us what he wants to do.”
