In a bid to create space within the squad for the potential arrival of Kalvin Phillips, Newcastle United, under the managerial helm of Eddie Howe, is reportedly planning to offload a few players, according to information shared by journalist Luke Edwards on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast.
Isaac Hayden, the Magpies’ midfielder, is said to be on the verge of a move to Sheffield United, a decision that not only opens up room on the roster but also aligns with Financial Fair Play (FFP) considerations. Hayden’s loan spell at Standard Liege is expected to conclude, and the CEO of the Belgian club has indicated that the midfielder will return to Newcastle.
While there had been initial optimism about Hayden finding a place in the St James Park squad, Howe’s plans seem to prioritize a transfer, possibly to Sheffield United. The move is deemed logical, given Hayden’s struggle to meet expectations and the perceived better fit for him in Sheffield United’s setup.
The sale of fringe players Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett is also under consideration, as revealed by Edwards, as part of Newcastle’s tactical restructuring.

Talks are reportedly “ongoing,” although any potential deal might not materialize before Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend.
Meanwhile, former Aston Villa scout Bryan King has expressed interest in acquiring out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. King believes Phillips could “enhance” the squad, adding another layer of intrigue to the dynamic transfer window, with the England midfielder reportedly drawing interest from various clubs.
