The latter then comfortably slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of Stefan Ortega’s net. The Red Devils lead two goals on the break over the same-city rival who are in a more favoured position to win the cup.

It was Mainoo’s sixth goal for United across the competition this season, and the second one during this year’s FA Cup. Mainoo’s first FA Cup goal came in the fourth round against Newport County.

Should United hold the lead until the final whistle, the title would make a difference amid their poor season. After failing to secure the Champions League slot, the FA Cup is the only hope for them to play in the European competition next season.
