Kylian Mbappe’s transfer saga to Real Madrid could come to an end before the Euro 2024 takes center stage as the French captain hinted at the move. Mbappe, who bid farewell to Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday after the Coup de France win over Lyon is all set to complete his free transfer to Real Madrid in the coming days. The France international is going to be part of the next set of Galácticos signings made by Real President Florentino Pérez.
Mbappe hints at Real Madrid transfer
“My next club will be official soon, it’s matter of days. I can’t wait for that, I’m happy. We have to wait just for some days”, Mbappe told CNN as he prepares to lead France in the upcoming Euro 2024.
Mbappe’s move to Real is an open secret as the player finally completes the deal after two years of prolonged speculations. The 25-year-old is considered by many as the best footballer in the world having helped his side reach back-to-back FIFA World Cup finals while also helping them win the whole thing in 2018. He has been a transfer target for Real since his Monaco days, but tough negotiations and the player’s desire to stay in Paris saw the deal get extended.
While there is no date reported on when the deal will be completed, the transfer won’t be completed at least until the Champions League final has taken place at Wembley on June 1. Another twist to the story could be the future of legendary midfielder Luka Modric, who is anticipated to announce his retirement from club football and vacate the No.10 jersey for Mbappe.
Considering Modric could announce his overall retirement once Croatia exits the Euro 2024, Mbappe’s move and short number won’t be an issue. However, if Modric stays in Madrid for another year, the Frenchman will have to wear a different number. He took No. 29 when he first arrived from Monaco to PSG and could be offered that number.
Mbappe targets Euro 2024 glory
For now, Mbappe’s focus will be to win the missing piece in the puzzle and win the Euro’s. He has so far won the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League with France and will look for a perfect international career if he snatches the continental glory, which has eluded him both at club and national level. France will start their Euro 2024 journey against Austria before facing the Netherlands and Poland in the group stage.
