LAFC in advanced talks with AC Milan over Olivier Giroud transfer

Los Angeles FC is reportedly in talks with AC MIlan on a possibility of signing Olivier Giroud in the summer, per The Athletic. The French forward will have his contract expire with Rossoneri by the end of June. The talks are ongoing as the player is considering another option regarding his future next season.

The MLS rumours have been circling around in the past weeks but The Athletic’s report has made it clearer. Giroud can turn down LAFC’s offer and leave for another European club. An option of going to the Middle East is also possible if an agreement with the Los Angeles-based club not met.

“MLS? There are other countries too” he told Gazzetta when asked about his future in January. “There will be more opportunities at the end of the season and I’ll decide. As a father and as a footballer.”

Olivier Giroud to join his fellow French nationals

The former Montpellier striker would join his fellow French players Hugo Lloris and Dennis Bounaga if he moves to LAFC. The MLS club, over the past few years, have emerged as one of the teams that should not be taken lightly. They reached the MLS Finals two seasons in a row, winning the 2022 edition and the Supporter’s Shield that year.

Giroud has scored 14 goals from 36 games for Milan this season, bringing them to the Europa League’s quarter final as well. France’s all-time top scorer also said that his intention was to stay with Milan but not closing the door for any possibilities.

“I still don’t know what will happen in the future,” he added. “I know that I am happy at Milan and that we’ve done great things.

“It’s a great love story. The club and I haven’t discussed an extension yet, we’ll see and decide later on. The most important thing is to remain focused on the team’s targets.”

Olivier Giroud is one of the most underrated strikers in history

Giroud gained international attention after winning the Ligue 1 with Montpellier in 2012 and with Arsenal who eventually signed him that year. With the North London-based club, he managed to score 105 goals in 253 games, winning three FA Cups and three Community Shields trophies in the process.

The Chambery-born player surprisingly moved to Arsenal’s city rival Chelsea in 2018 with €17 millions of transfer fee. With The Blues, Giroud even went on to win a bigger trophy than he ever won with The Gunners, the Champions League in 2021.

Giroud’s touch of gold did ot stop even when he decided to head southeast Italy to join Milan. He helped the club to win the first Serie A title in eleven years, in his initial season.
