What is the status of Robert Lewandowski’s Injury? Is he fit to play against Austria?

Poland’s Star Striker Nearing Return

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is expected to be fit for Poland’s second Euro 2024 game against Austria as confirmed by national team manager Michal Probierz. Lewandowski missed Poland’s opening match against the Netherlands due to an injury but he will most probably return to play Poland’s 2nd Euro 2024 game.

“Robert will probably join the team for the match against Austria,” Probierz told reporters.

Lewandowski suffered a tear in the biceps femoris muscle during a warm-up match against Turkey which forced him off the field in the 33rd minute. While the medical team faced a tough challenge to prepare him for the tournament’s first game they might be on the track for the 2nd.

Lewandowski Injury Update: Progress in Recovery

Probierz remains optimistic about Lewandowski’s recovery.

“There is progress in his treatment, the medical staff are doing everything to get him back on his feet,” he said. Lewandowski has begun individual training and is showing signs of improvement.

“I’m surprised when I read comments that it’s impossible when a muscle is torn. There are different degrees of such an injury,” Probierz added. He emphasized his trust in the medical team, saying, “I don’t ask them about such things because I fully trust them. Just like I don’t tell a bus driver which way to go.”

Lewandowski was surprisingly listed as a substitute in Poland’s squad for the match against the Netherlands even though he was not fit to play. Poland felt his absence as they lost the game by 2-1 against the Dutch.

The team hopes to have their star forward back to boost their chances against Austria.
