Lionel Messi is back to training after missing Argentina’s international friendlies

The Inter Miami superstar was ruled out of Argentina’s upcoming friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica in the United States due to a hamstring injury.

The 36-year-old forward missed Inter Miami’s last game against DC United after he came off injured in Miami’s second-leg victory over Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions League.

After the game, it was confirmed that Messi was struggling with a minor injury and would miss the next league game against DC United before he joined the Argentina squad for the upcoming international friendlies.

On Monday, the Argentina board announced that Lionel Messi will miss the upcoming international clashes against El Salvador and Costa Rica.

A statement read: “The captain of Argentina Lionel Messi, will not be able to be in the squad for the friendlies in USA due to a minor injury to the hamstring of his right leg suffered in his team’s Inter Miami’s match against Nashville SC.”

When will Lionel Messi return for Inter Miami?

On Tuesday, the Argentine superstar was spotted doing light training in Miami and working with his personal trainer. He will continue with this rehabilitation process as he looks to recover from his hamstring injury.

But Inter Miami coach Gerard Martino will not push for Messi’s immediate return and will ease him back to action. He will most likely miss the next game against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

Messi has scored five goals and created two assists in five matches across all competitions. For the moment, coach Martino would take no risks with Messi but expects the veteran to play a crucial role in their CONCACAF Champions Cup match against CF Monterrey on April 2nd.
