Liverpool and Manchester United chasing Rennes left-back

The Premier League giants have their eyes on a promising French player

Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly chasing Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert. The 22-year-old was part of France’s Olympics squad that won the silver medal on home turf, starting in five of their six matches.

Returning to Rennes training for the first time since the conclusion of the games, French publication L’Equipe has reported that Truffert has interest from numerous English clubs. Northwest derby rivals United and Liverpool are the prominent names, with Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers also mentioned.

Truffert broke into the Rennes senior team in 2020 and has since grown in influence gradually. He’s even played in European competitions, including the Champions League, every year with them.

Having come through the same academy as Ousmane Dembele and Eduardo Camavinga, Truffert’s contract with Rennes runs until 2026 but could be on the move this summer.

Manchester United are looking to bolster their left-back as they’ve started their season without Luke Shaw, who succumbed to an injury in February this year. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia hasn’t returned to fitness since picking up a knee problem 15 months ago.

On the other hand, Liverpool are looking for backups to Andrew Robertson, who turned 30 this year and struggled with injuries last season.

Manchester United and Liverpool off to winning starts

Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool began their new league campaign on a positive note, as both sides were on the winning side. United kicked-off the season with a 1-0 home victory over Fulham on Friday night, before Liverpool marked their post-Jurgen Klopp era with a 2-0 win over promoted side Ipswich Town.
