Liverpool ahead in race to sign Man Utd and Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi

Liverpool are preparing to secure their first signing of this summer after the Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi agreed for a move to Anfield from Real Sociedad, with a release clause of 60 million euros. The Reds are leading the race to obtain the 25-year-old’s signature, despite facing immense competition from fellow Premier League such as Manchester United and Arsenal.

Interestingly, Zubimendi has been in demand recently in the European market, after his impressive club performances and the latest cameo appearance in the Euro 2024 final against England. The Spaniard is highly rated and ranks amongst the best defensive midfielder in the Spanish top flight.

Recently, Liverpool welcomed their new Dutch manager Arne Slot as a successor to Jurgen Klopp, who ended his alliance with the club after nine seasons. Under Slot, the Reds have been quite silent in the transfer market, not rushing to bring in new names. Therefore, they haven’t signed any new players this summer.

Martin Zubimendi to conclude Liverpool’s search for Defensive Midfielder

The defensive midfielder is broadly admired by Liverpool camp, having been linked with the transfer speculations to Merseyside over the summer. The Reds are yet to find a replacement for Fabinho and Jordon Henderson in midfield, especially for the no. 6 role following the pair’s departure to the Saudi Pro League, last summer, thus Real Sociedad player emerged as the suitable profile.

During the 2023-24 season, the 25-year-old Spaniard from Sociedad played a staggering 45 games — making 41 starts across all competitions. He helped his side clinch a sixth-place finish in the La Liga points table and managed to score four league goals as well. Thus, it is believed that Zubimendi could potentially be the answer to the no. 6 problems at Anfield.
