Liverpool vs Bournemouth Preview

Date: September 21, 2024
Kick Off Time: 15:00 GMT
Venue: Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool will look to bounce back after a shocking loss last weekend as they welcome Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

Liverpool were off to a flying start this season, with nine points from their opening three games, showing early signs of success under new manager Arne Slot, but Nottingham Forest put an end to the streak. With the Reds undergoing a transition in their style of play from Jürgen Klopp’s heavy metal football, there have been several positive developments, especially an admirable degree of defensive strength.

Slot had no major first-team signings in the summer and has been working his gameplay around a manager’s style with a different outlook on the game. To bring visible improvements in the team in the first three games was a sign of hope.

While Liverpool’s defense has been up to the mark, their attack has been equally good as well, led by Egyptian maestro Mohamed Salah. Having already added three goals and three assists in four games, this season, Salah’s creativity and finishing ability have been pivotal in Liverpool’s attack. Slot’s tactical ideas have fit perfectly with fellow forward Luis Díaz making their front line one hell of a threat for the opponents.

The Red’s forward line has been free-flowing, having contributions from Diogo Jota, adding versatility to the team by providing multiple avenues to score. The availability of Darwin Núñez could add another reinforcement for the attack shortly.

Anfield has been Liverpool’s strong fortress, although a recent home defeat to Nottingham Forest so early in the campaign, would be concerning. Meanwhile last season, they suffered only one defeat at home in the league, but repeating the same thing would be quite an ask from the new manager.

On the other hand, Bournemouth has made a decent start under new manager Andoni Iraola. The Cherries ambitions for a top-half finish could be alive, while results have been mixed. Their performances have shown positive. Moreover, Iraola’s high-pressing and energetic style of play makes Bournemouth an unpredictable opponent, whereas the South Coast side would like to convert their performances into more points. The Cherries have failed to capitalize on games in which they enjoyed better performance, not converting them into maximum points.

Andoni Iraola’s plan for a ruthlessness in attack could bring in a couple of changes, with Luis Sinisterra awaiting a call to the starting lineup. Also, Kepa Arrizabalaga could return to guard the post after missing last weekend’s game, while Tyler Adams and Dango Ouattara remain injured.

Key Players to watch in Liverpool vs Bournemouth

Liverpool – Mohamed Salah

Salah has always enjoyed playing against Bournemouth, scoring nine goals in as many appearances in the Premier League. A goal this weekend could add him to an esteemed group of players to score 10+ goals against four different opponents after Alan Shearer (12), Wayne Rooney (seven), Harry Kane (six), Andrew Cole (six) and Thierry Henry (four).

Bournemouth – Antoine Semenyo

Semenyo has fine form for Bournemouth, including two goals and one assist in four Premier League games. The Ghana international scored at Anfield last time out in a Cherries’ 3-1 defeat on Merseyside, and he will aim to come with a better result this time.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction

Bournemouth’s away form is alarming with only three wins of their last twelve games Premier League. Moreover, all three wins came against sides lower in the league. Liverpool has a strong foothold at home and has lost just two league games at Anfield in the last two years. So this could pave the way for a narrow victory for the Reds.
