Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday, May 5. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Andrew Robertson made it 2-0 in the 45th minute. Cody Gakpo (50’) and Harvey Elliott (59’) also scored a goal each.
Tottenham had a late surge with Richarlison (70’) and Son Heung-min (79’) scoring a goal each but it was merely a consolation. It was Jurgen Klopp’s second last game at Anfield as Liverpool’s manager as he’s set to leave this summer.
Feyenoord manager Arne Slot, who is reportedly set to take over from the German revealed that he watched the clash on Sunday. However, he said that he could only watch Salah’s early goal and missed the rest of it.
Slot said, as per journalist Lewis Steele:
“If the official confirmation is there and I am 100% sure I will go there, I will not only watch this game (Liverpool v Tottenham) but many more.”
Multiple reports have confirmed that Slot will replace Klopp as Liverpool’s manager this summer. The German will leave after nine years, having won almost every trophy available at the club. He cited a lack of energy as his reason to depart.
Jurgen Klopp says he’s available for any advice for incoming Liverpool manager
Arne Slot will certainly have big shoes to fill at Liverpool once he takes over in the summer. However, he could look to take advice from Jurgen Klopp. Before the Tottenham clash, the German said that while he won’t offer unsolicited advice, but if an incoming manager wants any help, they can always reach out.
Klopp said:
“It is not my decision. I am not in a position to give advice. When new people come in, if they want to know something they can call me – the whole world has my number.
“We can speak about absolutely everything, I love talking about everything in this club. I love talking with each person, it’s no problem. But it’s not about me or up to me to be available to ask he or she. It’s no problem, I will give whatever I know about.”
Klopp will leave with just one trophy this season – Carabao Cup. They were eliminated from the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League. They are mathematically still active in the Premier League title race. However, sitting five points behind leaders Arsenal with two games remaining, it’s unlikely that they will win the league.
