Luka Modric sets record as Real Madrid’s most decorated player

It’s official! Luka Modric has become Real Madrid‘s most decorated player in history!

On Wednesday night, Real Madrid lifted the UEFA Super Cup beating Atalanta in Warsaw. Federico Valverde opened the scoring in the 59th minute after an amazing assist from Vinicius Junior, followed by new signing Kylian Mbappe taking the game beyond doubt scoring in the 68th minute from Jude Bellingham’s assist. This victory added more flavour with Real Madrid’s captain Luka Modric coming in the 77th minute for Rodrygo.

This newly added trophy was enough to give Modric a new title – the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history. This incredible achievement has taken the Croatian footballer’s tally to 27 trophies.

Modric was joint top with Nacho Fernandez until tonight, but with the Spanish defender leaving the club this summer, he remained with 26 trophies. Modric has claimed first place and sits alone on top.

Now, the 38-year-old shares first place with several players for the most trophies in the European Super Cup along with Arie Haan, Paolo Maldini, Dani Alves, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, and Dani Carvajal. Although these footballers won it four times, this victory tonight, took Modric and Carvajal as the record holders with five European Super Cup winner medals.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner’s career for the famous white shirt includes 535 games, scoring 39 and setting up 86 goals.
