Manchester City star Phil Foden has had a great campaign
Manchester City forward Phil Foden has won Football Writer Association’s Footballer Of The Year award. He is the third player from the club in the last four years to win the prize, with Erling Haaland (2023) and Ruben Dias (2021) coming before him.
In 48 games this season, Foden has scored 24 goals and assisted 10 more times, much of which have come in the Premier League as City are looking to swoop a record fourth consecutive top-flight title.
His tally of 16 goals and seven assists have played a key role in keeping Pep Guardiola’s side alive in the title race, while his overall tally of 24 goals is the most that he has ever managed in a single campaign for City in all competitions.
For all his talents, Foden has won numerous individual awards over the years, including the Premier League Young Player of the Year twice and PFA Young Player of the Year twice. But this one, the FWA’s Footballer of the Year prize, is by far his biggest.
The best part is, the forward is still only 23, and will have plenty of opportunities to swoop more honors in the coming years.
City has a tough path to the finish line
Manchester City are currently locked in a title race with Arsenal as the finish line edges closer. The Sky Blues have only four games remaining in their fixture list, and all seem potential banana skin on paper. Wolves (h), Fulham (a), Tottenham Hotspur (a) and West Ham (h) stand in their way of a record fourth consecutive league trophy, unless Pep Guardiola’s side slip up somewhere.
