It was a day to forget for Manchester United after they were dismantled 3-0 in the Premier League contest against arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday (Sep 1). The one-sided contest saw Liverpool edge their rivals with Mohamed Salah scoring for the seventh consecutive season at Old Trafford to be in the headlines. After Salah’s goal, Erik ten Hag looked out of site which means United have lost two of the opening three matches of the new season.
Erik ten Hag clueless
Having taken the early lead through Luis Diaz in the 35th minute, Arne Slot’s side was on the top before the Uruguayan added another before the first half came to a close. The lead was preserved until halftime before things got worse for United as Mohamed Salah scored his 10th goal at the iconic Old Trafford in the 56th minute. This was also his seventh consecutive goal at the Theatre of Dreams compiling more misery.
An angry Erik ten Hag was then seen throwing away his bottle at the touchline making it a worse day. United have been struggling against Liverpool for a while and lost 7-0 in the 2022-23 season. The latest defeat has once again raised question marks on his side’s ability. The Old Trafford outfit has so far lost two matches in the Premier League season while they also suffered a shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.
United’s struggle continues
United have been struggling in recent times and it was their FA Cup win against Manchester City in May that bailed Erik ten Hag out of a sack. However, if results continue to go against the Dutchman it won’t be long before he is sacked. They had lost to Brighton last week after Joao Pedro scored a stoppage-time winner at the Amex Stadium. They will have tough fixtures to come in the next few rounds while Europa League commitments could also bring a halt to their progress.
