What happened with Carlos Tevez?
Former Man United star Carlos Tevez was taken to hospital on Tuesday (April 23) after complaining of chest pain.
The former striker is currently the head coach of Argentine side Club Atletico Independiente. The club informed that Tevez had been taken to hospital on Tuesday. While the reports are “satisfactory”, he will stay at the hospital for further tests as a precaution. Independiente’s statement read:
“Our coach, Carlos Tevez, went to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro with chest pain. They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up. Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed.”
Tevez has been managing Independiente since August 2023. He has taken charge of 53 games for the club, winning 19, drawing 20, and losing 14 so far.
Independiente sits sixth in the first phase of the Argentine Primera Division. They are next scheduled to face Talleres Cordoba in the second phase on May 11.
A look at Carlos Tevez’s playing and managerial career so far
Carlos Tevez joined Argentine side Boca Juniors in 2002 and impressed during his three years at the club. He then joined Brazilian side Corinthians for a year before moving to the Premier League with West Ham United.
Tevez made 29 appearances for the Hammers, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. This saw him garner interest from Manchester United, who signed him on loan for two years in 2007. He scored 34 goals and provided 14 assists in 99 games for the Red Devils, helping them win numerous trophies.
Carlos Tevez then moved to United’s rivals Manchester City in 2009 where he spent four years. He made 148 appearances for them, scoring 73 goals and providing 35 assists. He helped them win the famous Premier League title in 2011.
The Argentine attacker then joined Italian giants Juventus in 2013, recording 50 goals and 19 assists in 96 appearances for them over two years. He then returned to Boca Juniors for two years. After one year at Chinese side SH Shenhua, Tevez returned to Boca Juniors for a third spell.
Overall, Carlos Tevez made 279 appearances for Boca Juniors, recording 94 goals and 50 assists. He left them in 2021 and eventually retired in 2022 without a club. Tevez became the manager of Rosario Central soon after retiring before joining Independiente.
Tevez also earned 76 caps with Argentina, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists.
Across his career, he won three Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League trophy, and two Serie A titles, among many other honors.
