Man United Advance their Interest in Ipswich Town’s Manager Kieran McKenna

Man United have held talks with Kieran McKenna representatives: Reports

As per ‘Sky Sports’, Man United has made progress towards pursuing its interest in Ipswich Town’s manager Kieran McKenna. The Red Devils have held talks with the representatives of the English manager. He stands out as one of the names from a list of individuals that United has been linked to in recent times including Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, and Thomas Tuchel.

As reported by the ‘Transfer News Live’ on their official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account, personnel from Man United’s hierarchy – Omar Berrarda and Jason Wilcox had a meet-up with McKenna’s representatives. It is worth mentioning that the 38-year-old manager is also attracting interest from other Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Brighton. Both clubs have recently parted ways with their previous managers in the form of Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi respectively.

The current Ipswich manager has previously served as an Assistant manager at Man United under the reign of renowned Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho. There have been several reports regarding the Red Devils looking to part ways with current Dutch manager Erik ten Hag. The reports pointing them moving ahead in their search for a new manager and hosting talks do stand to validate them to an extent.

How Kieran McKenna can change Man United’s fortunes

Kieran McKenna’s preferred formation of 4-2-3-1 isn’t something that Man United hasn’t played in before. Also one of the main attributes that he’s been credited with in his stint with Ipswich Town so far is his ability to bring out the best from his squad of players. Which does stand out as one of the main issues at United in recent times.

It is fair to say that having worked at the Red Devils before as an Assistant manager does allow him to have a certain understanding of the stature of the club and the expectations of the fans. When one sees his side Ipswich play in the Championship, it’s like a continuous rally of well-drilled and planned football on the pitch trying to replicate the most basic things effectively.

They never look like they are out of a game even when they have fallen behind in certain matches this season. Another factor that stands out with Mckenna is that he can gel a new player very quickly into his plans and narratives. It was evident in the way he utilized Ipswich’s loan signing Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth.

Moore provided his team with the needed kick to get them over the line and earn the automatic promotion to the Premier League. One could wonder how much difference he could make with a player like Rasmus Hojlund if the England-born manager does land the Man United job.
