Manchester United step up their interest in Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez

Few players this season have been as impressive as Girona star Miguel Gutierrez, with the young 22-year-old attracting a lot of attention from across Europe. Reports have indicated that the left-back has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and several other clubs. That should come as no shock though as the full-back has continued to thrive in an excellent Girona side.

The La Liga team was competing for the Spanish top-flight title for the first six odd months of the season but a drop in form has seen them drop off the race. Yet despite that, Girona still sits in third place on the league table ahead of Atletico Madrid, Copa Del Rey winners Athletic Club, and more. It has seen several stars from their squad attracting a lot of attention with Gutierrez at the top of several shortlists.

Manchester United to step up their move for Miguel Gutierrez

So much so, that both Arsenal and Manchester United have scouted the 22-year-old several times over the last few months. However, the Gunners are said to be the front-runners for the Spaniard’s signature with Gutierrez reportedly interested in a move to England. But the Sunday Mirror (via TeamTALK) has reported that the Red Devils have stepped up their interest in the Spaniard.

As per the report, the club’s part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the Red Devils to sign the 22-year-old this summer and is willing to help finance the deal for the left-back. But Arsenal also, reportedly, remains keen on Gutierrez and has been linked with a move in the past for the Spaniard. However, the bigger threat is Real Madrid as Gutierrez was on their books as a youth product.

He eventually left for Girona in the summer of 2022 in a permanent move although the Los Blancos interested a buy-back clause of around €8m for the left-back. It does mean they have first-choice on the full-back even if Girona and Manchester United do manage to reach an agreement. But with Real Madrid looking into a move for Alphonso Davies, Madrid may opt against activating the buy-back clause.
