Manchester United want Antonio Conte as their manager next summer – Reports

Manchester United have reportedly set sights on appointing Antonio Conte as the new manager this summer. They are keen on replacing Erik ten Hag and see the former Chelsea manager as one of the ideal candidates to take over.

As per a report in Fichajes, Manchester United want Antonio Conte along with three other clubs who are looking to secure his signature. They claim that three Italian sides are keen on getting the 54-year-old but now face competition from Manchester United.

AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli are the ones interested in getting the Italian in their dugout. All three sides are looking for a change this summer and see the manager, who has been without a club for over a year, as the ideal pick.

Conte was in the running to become the Manchester United boss before Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked but the Red Devils opted for Ten Hag. The manager was quizzed about it and he revealed that he was close to joining them during his playing days too.

He said:

“In the past, I would’ve liked to play in the Premier League. I tried to have this experience. Ferguson liked my football and asked me about myself. I know that in the past, Manchester United wanted to bring me there. My agent told me this, but I don’t know if it is a lie or the truth!”

Manchester United’s new part-owners, INEOS, are not happy with Ten Hag and believe that the Dutchman needs to be replaced this summer.

Gary Neville has already warned the manager of a possible sack and said earlier this year:

“At the moment that is not being demonstrated because it’s been going on for many, many months. We said when the players came back maybe we would see that but I think even that is maybe a little bit of an excuse because when we see other clubs have four or five players missing they still have that same style of play and patterns with the players that came off the bench or are in the reserves.”

He added:

“I think there is an issue which is growing larger and larger by the week. Ten Hag has proven that he can play great football when he managed at Ajax but he’s having a real problem in instilling a style at Man United which any of us can read. They are not a pressing team, a direct team or a possession team. They are a bit of everything.”

Apart from Conte, Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Robert de Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann have also been linked with the Red Devils.
