Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus reveals goal of winning the Champions League with the club

Over the years, few players have become as integral to Borussia Dortmund as Marco Reus but with the attacker turning 34 years old this year, it has seen his influence slip down the pecking order. That combined with the arrival of fresh new blood has seen the German slowly being fazed out of the team. So much so, that reports indicated that Reus would leave at the end of the season once his contract expired.

The 34-year-old has less than four months left on his contract and Dortmund confirmed that the two parties had made a mutual decision to part ways. This comes after over 400 appearances for the club while winning the DFB-Pokal and reaching the Champions League final as well. Not only that, while his appearances puts him fourth in the club’s all-time charts, his goals (168) puts him second on the all-time list.

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus believes they can win the Champions League

However, Reus and Dortmund’s job for the season is far from over as while Bayer Leverkusen have secured the title and are on their way to securing an unbeaten season, Dortmund have other targets. The Bundesliga giants currently sit 5th on the league table, nine points behind third place VfB Stuttgart and are in the Champions League semi-finals.

Not only that, they hold a 1-0 lead over PSG going into the second leg and Marco Reus asserted that while he’s incredibly happy for his time at the club, their focus is on winning the trophy. The German giants have lifted the Champions League crown once before and Reus admitted that the team wants to do it again at Wembley this season. He also added that while it will be tough, the squad knows what they need to do.

“I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too. I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season,” Reus told Borussia Dortmund’s official website.

“And yet I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play. We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”
