Mauricio Pochettino has spoken out on his Chelsea exit. The Argentine has agreed to leave the London club via mutual consent. Pochettino helped Chelsea gain a sixth-placed finish in his only season at the club. Chelsea, as a result, will play in the Europa League next season.
The Blues won all of their last five Premier League games. It looked like the club were heading in the right direction under Pochettino. However, his adventure ends here. Pochettino has now released a statement, saying (via Fabrizio Romano on X);
“Thank you to Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
Chelsea are scouting a younger manager to replace Pochettino. Pochettino was the club’s sixth permanent manager in the last five years. Hence, the club’s long-term visions remain under scrutiny.
Chelsea official’s react to Mauricio Pochettino leaving
Chelsea sporting directors Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley reacted to Mauricio Pochettino’s departure. They expressed gratitude for Pochettino’s services. A statement read (via the Blues’ website):
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
According to Rahman Osman, Pochettino wanted a longer contract as well as a say in the club’s transfer policies. Both parties could agree on those demands, resulting in Pochettino leaving via mutual consent.
