Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino lavished praise on midfielder Conor Gallagher after the team’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The Blues were a goal down at half-time but Gallagher’s brace propelled them to a much-needed win in the end.
Things looked bleak for the visitors after falling behind to Jefferson Lerma’s sensational strike in the first half. However, Chelsea showed great spirit and mounted a comeback that pleased their manager. Cole Palmer performed well too, chipping in with two late assists to seal the deal.
However, Pochettino singled out Conor Gallagher in his post-match interview and expressed his delight at having a player of his quality in the team.
“(He is) Always trying to compensate every situation in an offensive and defensive situation and that is priceless to have a player like him.
“I’m so happy for him and I’m so happy for the team because it’s a victory we needed, the three points.”
The Argentine was also realistic about his assessment. He mentioned the Blues need to be at it from minute 1, with a big game against Manchester City coming up next in the league.
“We need to be more consistent; we need to start the game in a different way.
“But yes, very pleased in the end because we needed the three points and now to prepare for the next week against Manchester City.”
The 3-1 win over Crystal Palace sees the Blues climb up to 10th in the table ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Another win could see them climb as high as seventh place, should other results go in their favour as well.
Chelsea will travel North to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium for the next outing in the Premier League. With 14 games to go, Mauricio Pochettino and his men will look to put their best foot forward and finish the season strong.
