Mauricio Pochettino set to take over as United States head coach

Mauricio Pochettino is all set to become the new United States coach with the main aim of building the side ahead of the 2026 World Cup

The 52-year-old has been looking for a new challenge since exiting Chelsea on mutual terms. Earlier this summer the Argentine managed one season at Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest that the former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have reached a deal to take charge after Gregg Berhalter, the USMNT head coach after brief discussions with USSF’s technical director Matt Crocker.

Having worked previously with Premier League’s Southampton and the English Football Association, Crocker has been assigned to recruit an elite coach to help the USMNT become a top contender in the 2026 World Cup. The U.S.A. is a joint host, along with Canada and Mexico.

Despite initial efforts to bring in Jurgen Klopp after he departed from Liverpool this summer, Pochettino has led the way significantly to become the head coach. As per reports, he said to take charge of USMNT for the upcoming game against Canada, in Kansas City on September 7th. There were also words that Pochettino was under consideration for the England job, replacing Gareth Southgate.
