Manchester United Eyes Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as Potential Key Signing in Post-Ratcliffe Overhaul

In a strategic move indicative of the impending Jim Ratcliffe era at Old Trafford, Manchester United are reportedly keen on securing Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise as one of the first signings under the new ownership. Although a January move for the 22-year-old has been ruled out, United have identified Olise as a prime target for a comprehensive squad overhaul planned at the end of the season.

Olise, who penned a four-year deal with Palace in August, holds a new £100,000-a-week contract featuring a release clause set to activate in the upcoming summer. While the exact figure remains undisclosed, it is anticipated to surpass the £35 million release clause in his previous contract with Palace.

Under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s control of football operations, granted through his £1.03 billion deal for a 25% stake in United, plans are underway to revamp the club’s transfer strategy. Sir Dave Brailsford is spearheading an audit of the current transfer structure, with potential summer targets being discreetly identified.

Michael Olise could become Man Utd’s first Winter signing

Olise emerges as a prospect to inject creativity into United’s struggling attack, as the team has only managed to score 22 goals in the Premier League this season. The 22-year-old, who showcased his prowess with five goals in seven starts since recovering from a November hamstring injury, is seen as a player who could breathe life into United’s offensive play.

While Ratcliffe’s takeover is pending Premier League ratification, INEOS has already assumed control of football operations at United. Until the deal is formalized, United are obligated to consult with INEOS before making any player transactions.

As part of the club’s efforts to reshape the squad and potentially fund January moves, United may offload players such as Jadon Sancho, with talks of a possible loan to Borussia Dortmund.

Donny van de Beek has already joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan, and discussions involving Raphael Varane, Casemiro, and Anthony Martial are ongoing.

However, significant incoming deals are expected to wait until the summer, coinciding with Ratcliffe’s potential investment that could enhance the club’s financial capabilities for player acquisitions. Crystal Palace, reluctant to lose Olise, may find themselves powerless if his release clause is activated.
