The Premier League has seen it all in this season. Whether it’s goals, great defensive blocks, tempers flaring, or aggressive tactics. However, among all these the yellow cards and red cards have also made their presence felt. The players haven’t hesitated in committing those tactical files doesn’t matter what area of the pitch it is.
Sometimes, referees have let those fouls go and have been determined to let the game flow. But, also very often they had shown zero ignorance of such situations and have been quick in getting the cards out of their pockets. While most of the time the players have been given yellow cards for their initial mistimed challenge on the opponent’s player during very few phases in this season a player has been shown a straight red card.
In terms of yellow cards, one needs to get the second yellow card in the same match to be sent off from the pitch while a straight red signifies their immediate exit from the match. After receiving a red card or two consecutive yellow cards, the suspension period of the player usually inherits between one to three matches for a rash challenge or a foul committed.
However, the duration of their suspension depends on the initial review of the incident due to which they received the card in the first place. Also, five yellow cards for a player in the same season results in him being suspended for the next match. The same scenario follows if he reaches 10 yellow cards for the season and so on.

Players with the most red cards in the 2023-2024 Premier League season so far
In terms of the red card received, Tottenham Hotspur’s Yves Bissouma and Sheffield United’s Oliver McBurnie lead the race. Also, these two come across as the only players to receive more than one red card in the ongoing Premier League season so far. In contrast both the players operate in quite a different sort of across the field for their respective teams in the Premier League.
Yves Bissouma has been majorly doing the mopping-up duties for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season. Despite the urge to get forward on the pitch more and more he’s been deluded to play a holding midfielder role for the Spurs as a support to their defensive line.
While Ange Postecoglou has been playing a rather high line for most parts of the season. Bissouma always turns out to be the player staying between the attack and defensive line during crucial match situations and in certain situations that force him to commit to challenges to stop the opponent’s players from breaking through in transition.
On the other hand, one of Oliver McBurnie’s red cards was quite a debatable one. The Blades’ striker received a second yellow in their match against Burnley which resulted in him getting a red card and further sent off from the pitch letting his team down to 10 men in that crucial fixture. His first card came from elbowing an opponent player, while the second one was from a foul committed.
