Netherlands vs Bosnia Preview, Prediction, Lineups and Team News | Nations League

Preview

  • Tournament: UEFA Nations League
  • Date: Saturday, Sep 07
  • Kick-off Time: 07:45 pm GMT
  • Venue: Philips Stadion, Netherlands

Netherlands national football team will take on the Bosnia national football team in the group-stage clash of the Nations League campaign at the Philips Stadion. Netherlands finished the Euro 2024 as one of the best third-placed teams.

Despite reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2024, the Oranje were unfortunate to lose 2-1 to England in extra time after they scored many goals under Ronald Koeman in the prior rounds of the competition. They are undefeated in 10 of their last 12 Nations League games, so we can expect an exciting battle this weekend. The hosts are the clear favourites in this matchup and should secure an easy three points.

Meanwhile, Bosnia’s national football team did not qualify for the UEFA Euro 2024 this summer and are currently on a losing streak of six matches. It will be challenging for the Bosnian side to compete with Ronald Koeman’s squad.

Netherlands national football team news

The Dutch national side would be happy to welcome Jurrien Timber back to the starting lineup and missed out on the European Championships due to a serious knee injury. His twin brother Quinten has earned his second call-up after missing out on Euro 2024 with a thigh injury. Ian Maatsen, Steven Bergwijn, Memphis Depay, Stefan de Vrij and Georginio Wijnaldum are some of the notable absentees in the Oranje squad.

Meanwhile, for Bosnia, captain Eden Dzeko is enjoying a productive spell with Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce. The nation’s all-time leading goalscorer is expected to lead the nation. Osman Hadžikić, Esmir Bajraktarević and Ifet Đakovac are all expected to make their debuts for the national side.

Key Players to Watch out for

Ryan Gravenberch (Netherlands)

The Dutch midfielder has made a blistering start to the Premier League this season and had a sudden resurgence in his Liverpool career since the appointment of Arne Slot this summer. Gravenberch is expected to play a starring role for the Oranje in the Nations League due to the absence of Frenkie de Jong in the competition.

Edin Dzeko (Bosnia)

Fenerbahce striker Edin Dzeko who signed a two-year contract with the Turkish giants in 2023 is the all-time leading goalscorer for Bosnia with 65 goals to his name. The veteran striker is also the most-capped Bosnian player and was disappointed when his nation missed out on qualifying for the Euro 2024 this summer.

Netherlands vs Bosnia Prediction

Netherlands’s national football team are favourites for this tie as they are coming off an impressive run in the Euro 2024 despite their defeat at the hands of England in the sem-final. The Oranje will seek redemption in the Nations League and will not have a better chance to return to winning ways than this tie. Bosnia and Herzegovina are not as threatening, so Ronald Koeman’s men are expected to secure a win.

Bosnia’s national football team, meanwhile, are coming off a 1-0 loss to Italy in their latest friendly. The Balkan Dragons are currently on a six-game losing run in all competitions and have been in dismal form for quite an extensive period. They have lost seven of their last eight matches on the road.
