The Romania national team’s captain and talismanic midfielder Nicolae Stanciu netted a stunning goal in their 3-0 win over Ukraine at the UEFA EURO 2024. The Tricolors eventually ran out 3-0 victors to begin their campaign on a resounding note.

Playing in their first Euro Cup since 2016, Romania opened their tournament against Ukraine at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Monday in Group E. They started the match on a stronger note and went ahead in the 29th minute.

A horrendous back-pass from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin falls straight to Dennis Man, who instantly switched it out to Stanciu. The 31-year-old skipper galloped forward a few steps before making a stupendous first-time finish into the top corner beyond Lunin’s despairing dive.

Romania were in front and didn’t look back thereafter, dominating the proceedings with their energetic and dynamic attacking style of play that had Ukraine on the tenterhooks for much of the game.

Early into the second half, Răzvan Marin and Denis Drăguș scored within minutes of each other to cement their hold on the match, as Edward Iordănescu’s side ran out big winners to claim all three points. They next play heavyweights Belgium on Saturday, whereas Ukraine will be looking to make amends for the loss against Slovakia the day before.
