Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle United have reportedly set their sights on Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, with plans to pursue a move during the upcoming summer transfer window. The 26-year-old’s future has been a subject of speculation, with several top European clubs expressing interest in the Italian international.

Barella initially joined Inter on loan for the 2019-20 season before securing a permanent transfer from Cagliari. Since then, he has become a key figure for Inter, amassing 210 appearances, scoring 21 goals, and providing 47 assists. His contributions have played a crucial role in Inter’s recent successes, including winning Serie A, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Italian Super Cups.

A three-way battle for Nicolo Barella

During the current 2023-24 campaign, Barella has continued to showcase his importance to Inter, making 23 appearances, scoring once, and contributing three assists. As his contract with Inter is set to expire in June 2026, the Serie A side is engaged in contract talks with Barella, expressing a desire to extend his current deal.

However, according to Fichajes, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle are keen on luring the talented midfielder to the Premier League. While Inter is prepared to increase Barella’s salary, the allure of potentially higher earnings in the Premier League has prompted interest from the English clubs.

Despite Inter’s efforts to prioritize extending Barella’s contract, the trio of Premier League clubs sees an opportunity to bolster their squads with the addition of the versatile midfielder. Manchester United had previously been linked with Barella, indicating a broader interest in the player from English clubs.

As the Serie A season unfolds, Inter currently leads the table, four points ahead of second-placed Juventus.
