Otávio Edmilson da Silva Monteiro who is popularly known as Otávio is an attacking midfielder representing Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League for the 2023/24 season. He traditionally belongs from Brazil and has a total market value of Rs 280 Crore. He is managed by his agent Livesoccer. He debuted with the Internacional and became the champion of three Primeira Liga titles.

Early Life

Otavio Monteiro

Otávio was born in João Pessoa, located in Brazil on February 9, 1995. His father was a van driver who supplied goods from one place to another. Later his father also became a popular taxi driver in Brazil. His father at times left his work and traveled for more than 2 hours to drop his son to the training ground.

Otávio began his football career with the Internacionales which was the youth club of his city. He was transferred to Vitória de Guimarães in 2016, where he won Primeira Liga titles thrice, Taça de Portugal twice and Supertaças Cândido de Oliveira titles twice. At the national level, Otávio represented Brazil during the year 2014, at the U-19 level. However, later on, he switched to Portugal and played in its senior leagues in the coming years.

CLUB

During the initial stages of his career, Otávio represented Internacionale at the age of 17. He also joined the Porto Alegre club at the age of 15, thereafter he began his outstanding performance under the Internacionale.

INTERNAZIONALE

While playing under Internacionale, Otávio made his Serie A debut in the match played against Santos, where his team played a tie with a scoreline of 0-0. He scored his first goal in the year 2013 while playing against Cruzeiro, which helped his team to play a draw with a scoreline of 2-2. In his 55 appearances for the club, he scored a total of 6 goals.

PORTO

Otávio was transferred to Porto in the year 2014, and he further signed a contract of €5 million and competed in the Segunda League. Later he was transferred to Victoria SC in the Primeira Liga. Here he made his debut against Belenenses. He scored his first goal against Académica de Coimbra where his team won with a scoreline of 4-2.

He won his first tournament during the second season, where he scored 2 goals in the 15 appearances he made. During the 2019-20 season, he made his team, win another tournament, where he scored 2 goals in the 48 appearances he made.

AL NASSR

Finally, Otávio was transferred at a record-breaking cost of €60 million, on 22 August 2023 and made him the most expensive sale ever made by Porto in its history. At the same time, he became the most expensive player ever bought in the history of Saudi Pro League.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Otavio

Immediately after making his debut for Internacional, Otávio was selected for the Under 20 team of Brazil, which was led by Alexandra Gallo. Otávio scored a total of 1 goal in the 4 appearances which he made on behalf of Brazil.

Later in 2021, Otávio took Portuguese citizenship and in the very next year, he was selected for the national team of Portugal for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Under it, he got an opportunity to play against the qualifiers between the Republic of Ireland and Azerbaijan, along with a friendly match which was played with Qatar.

In the match against Qatar, he scored his first goal and made his team win with a scoreline of 3-1. Again, in the match against Turkey, he scored his second goal for the team and made his team qualify for the Quarterfinals of World Cup Qualification playoffs. Overall, he scored 3 goals in the 17 appearances which he made for Portugal.

On the other hand, his father always ensured that Otávio never missed his practices and hence he used to drop him to the training ground every day before going out for his work.
