Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Pep Guardiola endorsed Vincent Kompany appointment. Kompany is set to take charge of the Bavarians next season. Thomas Tuchel has already departed the club.
Kompany was the manager of Burnley last season. The Clarets, however, were relegated to the Championship. Despite the poor outcome, Kompany is set to land one of the biggest jobs in world football. Rummenigge has now revealed (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
“Pep Guardiola was also helping us with Kompany, he spoke very highly of Vincent as talented coach. Pep knows Vincent well and his opinion was really appreciated.”
Guardiola knows Kompany very closely. The defender was City’s captain when Guardiola took charge. The former Bayern manager’s endorsement should have given the Bavarians’ pursuit a boost.
Kompany has a specific style of football that he likes his teams to play. The Belgian prefers to build up in a rhythm from the back. His football is flowing and easy on the eye. Many believe taking a more pragmatic approach could have served well in the Premier League. They don’t have the necessary attacking quality to play perfect football. However, at Bayern, Kompany will have the necessary firepower in his ranks. That would make the Bavarians a formidable force in European football.
Phillip Lahm analyzes Vincent Kompany’s impending Bayern Munich move
Bayern Munich great Phillip Lahm thinks Vincent Kompany is the perfect fit for Bayern Munich. Although Kompany doesn’t have the necessary experience at the top level, Lahm is on board with the move. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner said (via Bavarian Football Networks):
“For me, he has the right profile for a coach — a player who has played at the highest level, who has taken on responsibility as captain and who was certainly able to learn from Pep Guardiola. That’s why the profile is right. But with the current situation at FC Bayern, you first have to prove yourself.”
Kompany is expected to give Bayern an identity in terms of their style of play. That is the main reason behind his appointment. Fans will keep a keen eye on how his stay at the Allianz Arena unfolds.
