Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and goalkeeper Ederson will miss Saturday’s quarter-final game against Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola gives Man City injury update
First-team goalkeeper Ederson was forced to come off with a muscle injury during their 1-1 draw with Liverpool last week in the Primer League after being hurt in a challenge with Darwin Nunez.
According to multiple sources, the Brazilian will be sidelined for up to four weeks with a muscle injury and therefore miss the clash against Newcastle United on Saturday.
On the other hand, Kevin de Bruyne is nursing a groin injury and was left out of upcoming Belgium friendlies against England and Ireland this month.
“Kevin’s not ready. He already played in Anfield with some problems. But he’s getting better. He’s not ready for tomorrow. We spoke with Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco and he decided,” Guardiola (Pep Guardiola Press Conference) told reporters.
“Eddie (Ederson) is getting better, hopefully he’ll be ready after the international break. Tomorrow, for sure (he will not play). He’ll have two weeks off then, he’ll recover, we’ll see how he feels.”
However, Jack Grealish who has missed the last three games with a groin injury will be a part of the squad and will compete with Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb for his position in the starting XI.
Manchester City vs Newcastle United prediction
This will be the first FA Cup meeting between both sides since the 2019/20 quarter-final, where the Cityzens won 2-0 at St. James’ Park.
Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 21 matches across all competitions and will be hoping for another treble this season. Pep Guardiola’s side have managed three wins in their last five with the Magpies but they were eliminated by Eddie Howe’s men in this season’s EFL Cup.

Eddie Howe’s men have struggled for form this season, having conceded 12 defeats in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
But the Magpies would struggle to beat treble-winners Manchester City who have been in blistering form over the past few months.
